Why it's important?
Fabric Hygiene:
Fabric surfaces have the ability to filter air. Like any other fabric, they must be cleaned. If they are not cleaned, they discharge back out into the air concentrated amounts of the impurities that they are designed to filter.
Indoor Air Quality:
Currently it has been found that the air inside a building is more polluted than outside. However, the EPA has found that if cleaned properly, the carpet and furnishings in a building have a positive, not a negative impact on indoor air quality.
Health Effects:
Unsanitary substances create respiratory conditions, skin reactions, and headaches all leading to greatly increased absenteeism, decreased productivity and other problems associated with "Sick Building Syndrome".
